Where Did Those Come From?

I had taken Wes to see Dr. Jeff, his veterinarian. Wes had a sore of some kind on his nose and as always with grandchildren, children, and beloved pets (Wesley) comes this frantic statement: “I’ve got to get him to the doctor! This might be something serious!” Well, Wes had apparently scratched his nose doing something he probably should not have been doing (digging for acorns – no one bothered to tell him that acorns are for hogs – not dogs!)

Anyway, all’s well, but the Vet began sharing with us interesting, amazing things about dogs, using words and terms we did not understand (but we gave him our undivided attention and solemnly nodded our heads signifying that we were in complete agreement.) His knowledge about the animal was very impressive. Bill asked him when he had completed his spontaneous synopsis, “What does all of this knowledge do to your faith in Jesus Christ?” “Nothing whatsoever. You’re asking about evolution. Evolution is obviously taking place around us: The male today is much taller than the male of 1918 and certainly much taller than when suits of armor were worn. But the Theory of Evolution loses all of its power when a person brings in a dog that is seriously ill and tears are running free. Where did those emotions come from? Not seaweed. That’s for sure. No problem at all for me. God is still the Creator and He gave us our emotions.”

Isn’t that great? With one “fell blow” Dr. Jeff repudiated the theory of evolution that very learned men, intelligent men cling to in their passionate desire to dispel the Biblical story of creation.

By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God . . . (Hebrews 11:3 NAS)

I have made the earth, the men, and the beasts which are on the face of the earth by My great power and by My outstretched arm . . . (Jeremiah 27:5 NAS)

Surely My hand founded the earth, And My right hand spread out the heavens;

(Isaiah 48:13 NAS)

Who else but God goes back and forth to Heaven? Who else but God holds the wind in His fists, and wraps up the ocean in His cloak? Who but God created the world? If there is any other – what is His name – and his son’s name – if you know it?

(Proverbs 30:4 TLB)

Do we understand that if we reject Jeremiah 27:5 and Isaiah 48:13 that we are in so doing calling God a liar? I don’t want to wear those shoes or be a part of that play.

I find myself saying, with the boy’s father in Mark 9:24, “I believe; help my unbelief!” Dear Lord, please give me the wisdom to separate truth and error; to accept Your testimonies rather than be confused by the wisdom of the world.

Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe?

Where is the debater of this age?

Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

(I Corinthians 1:20 NAS)

Lord we look to You for our wisdom. Please give us the discernment and the courage to refute those who mock You with their “worldly wisdom.”
