Then Moses returned to the Lord and said,
“O Lord, why have You brought harm to this people?
Why did You ever send me?”
Exodus 5:22

Have you ever “accosted” God with a plea something like this? “Why did this happen to me? I knew from the very beginning it was not going to turn out right–like You lead people to believe it will if they trust in You–and You didn’t do anything! Now what am I going to do? Talk about being in a horrible mess! Everything has gone wrong!”
Moses had tried his best to convince God that he wasn’t the man for this job God had given him–leading His people out of Egypt. Moses came up with every possible reason (excuse)–but to no avail. So he finally gave in and now–just as he had expected–everything has gone wrong! The people are mad at him–their suffering has increased exponentially–and God’s glorified plan has not worked! What in the world was God thinking–and why in the world did I agree to be a part of it?
As you read on in Exodus you find, of course, that God’s plan worked beautifully–everything eventually came to pass just as He said it would1. But there was more than ONE goal on God’s agenda. He not only intended to set His people free, He wanted His servant, Moses, to realize the power of this God who had called him by name from the burning bush. And one miracle wouldn’t accomplish that goal with the Egyptians or with Moses. God knew that! Moses didn’t–so he complained!
We can get so emotionally involved sometimes that we forget about God being omniscient. He knew exactly how many acts of God Pharaoh had to “endure” before he would not only let God’s people go–he would drive them out of his land! And God knew how many acts of God Moses had to see for himself before he would proclaim, “You are God–the great I AM!”
God is in control. That does not mean that everything is going to be all right–that the job will come through, the money will turn up, the son or daughter will submissively return, that your loved one will be healed, or your marriage will be restored. It does mean that God has His plans all worked out–from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21, and that every event–in every person’s life–in your life and in my life–plays a part in His well-laid plans. Who knows whether you have come into the Kingdom for such a time as this (Esther 4:14)?

Just wait a while, Moses. You’ll see what God had in mind and it will absolutely astound you!
It’s going to be all right, Anabel. Trust Me, my child. I know everything–everything that happened yesterday and everything that is going to happen tomorrow! This astounds you? I astound people–I AM does that frequently.
God longs for us to be astounded–by His works, His plan, and His love.

1 Hab. 2:3 (TLB) “But these things I plan won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, do not despair, for these things will surely come to pass. Just be patient. They will not be overdue a single day.”
