It is He who made the earth by His power,
Who established the world by His wisdom;
And by His understanding He has stretched out the heavens.
When He utters His voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens,
And He causes the clouds to ascend from the end of the earth;
He makes lightning for the rain,
And brings out the wind from His storehouses.
– Jeremiah 10:12-13

I have shared similar thoughts with you many times. Then, why again, Anabel? Because many of us have placed God in an ivory tower somewhere in space — respected, but unreachable — awesome, but untouchable. Yet there are so many of us who are hurting or confused or lonely, and we need someone to talk to who will really listen to us. We need to be confident that this person loves us and won’t take what we say and be critical of us or tell other people our secrets. We need someone who will understand and will be gentle with us. Well, we have that Person in our Heavenly Father. Think . . ..

You are a marvelous, majestic, glorious God. You are an omniscient, omnipotent, immutable King. Your awesome splendor is evident in all I see. It is impossible for me to comprehend Your power. The earth is Yours and all that is in it; every beast of the forest, the cattle on a thousand hills, all the birds on the mountains, and everything that moves in the fields belongs to You (Ps. 50:10-11). I lift my hands to You with a deeply grateful heart and in complete adoration.

But all of these magnificent attributes make You so far above me, so infinite, so far, far away, so important, and so intimidating!

Should it surprise me that You would know that? And knowing my dilemma, You sent Someone who knew You well to introduce me to You. Oh, yes, You are God and all that means. You are unfathomable. But when Jesus came He talked to You and when He did He called you “Father.” It was so obvious in His interaction with You that the two of you had bonded, that you were very close — that You loved each other dearly. Forty-three times in the book of Matthew, He calls you by that endearing name, Father, and encourages us to follow His example. I think I could safely say that Jesus was trying to impress us with this beautiful relationship — with this tender, loving, all-knowing, compassionate Father.

Because He is omniscient He understands everything when all I have the strength to utter is, “Oh, God!” Because He is omnipotent I can give Him my problems and He will sustain me and work with that problem. Because He is omnipresent I can emit that cry wherever I am and know that He hears me

Oh, yes! You are a mighty God and I give You glory and I praise Your holy name. But I am so thankful that You are much more than that — You are my loving Father and You delight in me. But there’s even more — You are my Friend — forever.

And the Scripture was fulfilled which says,
“And Abraham believed God,
and it was reckoned to him as righteousness,”
